Ende 2018 veröffentlichte die „Elite“ der Baclofenforschung mit Schwerpunkt Alkoholabhängigkeit in der renommierten Fachzeitschrift „The Lancet“ das so genannte „Cagliari-Statement“ als Reaktion auf eine systematische Meta-Analyse von Tom Bschor und Kollegen. In diesem Statement schildern die Autoren den aktuellen Stand der Behandlung von Alkoholabhängigkeit mit Baclofen und sprechen sich für den Off-Label-Einsatz des Medikaments aus – nicht zuletzt aufgrund mangelnder effektiver Alternativen.
Florian Naudet & Alain Braillon wiederum ließen dieses Statement nicht unkommentiert und konterten mit einer Gegenargumentation Baclofen and alcohol in France.
